Does Quran forbid Music?

Good and rhythmic song is a beautiful and very powerful thing we can enjoy. It is not just enjoyment but song has powerful healing effect! That’s amazing!

The healing power of song

But some false hadiths lead us toward the wrong direction. It is hard to believe that prophet Muhammad forbid what is indeed good for mankind. The prophet came for benefit for the mankind; he is mercy for mankind.

Hadith: Sunan Abu-Dawud: Book 41, Number 4909: Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: Salam ibn Miskin, quoting an old man who witnessed AbuWa’il in a wedding feast, said: They began to play, amuse and sing. He united the support of his hand round his knees that were drawn up, and said: I heard Abdullah (ibn Mas’ud) say: I heard the apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) say: Singing produces hypocrisy in the heart.

Hadith Qudsi 19:5: “The Prophet said that Allah commanded him to destroy all the musical instruments, idols, crosses and all the trappings of ignorance.”

Does the holy Quran say Music is forbidden? No, never. It seems the Quran is against those hadiths. So prophet Muhammad did not say so.

[The Quran 2:30]  Recall that your Lord said to the angels, “I am placing a representative (a temporary god) on Earth.” They said, “Will You place therein one who will spread evil therein and shed blood, while we SING Your praises, glorify You, and uphold Your absolute authority?” He said, “I know what you do not know.”

[15:98]  You shall SING the praises of your Lord, and be with the prostrators.

As per the Quran, only devil can prohibit good things which God creates for His creatures.

[The Quran 7:32] Say, “Who prohibited the nice things God has created for His creatures, and the good provisions?” Say, “Such provisions are to be enjoyed in this life by those who believe. Moreover, the good provisions will be exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection.” We thus explain the revelations for people who know.
